Jessamyn and Meredith have reflected on some of the blogs that weren’t in Walt’s list, so I began to think about what some of mine were. Frankly, a lot of the blogs I read were on the list.

But a couple weren’t.

One thing I wished I’d seen more of was special librarian blogs; the list was overwhelmingly manned by librarians in the public and academic sphere. Some might say that’s because the overwhelming majority of librarians are in these parts of the profession, but I’m selfish. I want to hear from librarians in situations like mine - where you are the only MLS in your organization, where you are not only responsible for reference and cataloging, but for doing research for your clients. It’s a unique field of librarianship, and I would have liked to see it represented better.

To that end, there are two blogs I would have included in my top 50 that were conspicuously absent:

  • J’s Scratchpad. J is a news librarian in Boston, a close mentor of one of my closest friends, Amy. I first met her in January, when I attended the Mid-Winter Meeting for ALA, but in fact, hers was one of the first librarian blogs I started reading when I started reading library blogs. Her posts run the gamut from issues in journalism to organizational tech like Flikr, and even when its not something directly related to my work, I find it fascinating.
  • ResourceShelf. There are several authors on this blog, Gary Price and Shirl Kennedy being the most prolific, and the posts cover everything, from business to cool educational sites, and as a result is useful to librarians in every field. Several of the websites I used in my last position, I discovered on ResourceShelf.

Now that that’s done: anyone have any special library blogs they’d like to recommend?
